Natural Supplements You Can Take To Help With Depression

Feeling sad or being upset are natural emotions of our bodies. However these emotions are short-lived. Being sad and anxious for many days wrecks havoc on the daily activities of life. Depression while being very common illness, is also very serious.

Here are five natural supplements that will help you counter depression.

Fish Oil – Rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, fish oil is very beneficial for both brain and the body. When there is a deficiency of Omega-3 in our bodies, the brain is not able to send nerve signals properly. In such a situation, feeling anxious or being depressed is not uncommon.
B-Complex Vitamins – The most common cause for mild depression is imbalance of certain natural chemicals that make us feel happy. A Danish study in 2004 found out that a lot of people who suffer from depression had deficiency of vitamin B6. Supplementing your brain with vitamin B6 and vitamin B3 allows your body to synthesize serotonin, which is a mood enhancer.
Theanine – A protein derivative found in green tea. It is highly recommended to people with depression. Theanine promotes the release of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain. GABA works by activating the neurotransmitters which are supposed to help us stay calm and at peace. The human body has a difficulty absorbing synthesized GABA, so theanine remains a very good option.
Vitamin D – It is usually associated with bone health because it promotes calcium absorption. A study conducted in Norway found out that people who were given vitamin D for one year were significantly less depressed than those who were in a placebo group. Though it is still unclear how vitamin D helps us stay calm and counter anxiety, scientists speculate it probably helps improve our neurotransmitter functions.
Ashwagandha – It is an ayurvedic herb, also known by its botanical name withania somnifera. This is a wonder herb, in some cases it has even shown neural regeneration in some people. Ashwagandha also helps to maintain your GABA level and calm your mood. It helps you to protect yourself from neural degeneration when you are in depression.
